The third festival in the month of Nisan is the Fesitval of First Fruits. It was a one-day festival that marks the beginning (first fruits) of the spring barley harvest, which is followed by the harvest of other grains. It is to be celebrated on the first day of the week that follows the Sabbath that follows Passover Day. That sounds a little complicated and there is a lot of background to it but essentially – the timing of first fruits could fall anywhere between 16 – 22 Nisan. It was a thanksgiving festival in which the first sheaves of barley were brought up from the fields by the reapers that year. The High Priest then took the first sheaf of barley from the harvest and waved it in presentation to the Lord. It represented the first of the harvest to come.
